Watch out Rocky...

Friday I received the call that every mother dreads...
"Mom, this is Carson and I got into a big fight at school."

"What happened?"

"These kids were beating up my friend and I tried to
defend him. I got a referral and I can't have recess for a whole week"

SERIOUSLY????

We have taught our kids that it is right to defend someone or yourself when someone else starts the fight.

And then the assistant principal gets on the phone and I explain why I don't think he should be punished for defending someone. She said the school rule is to run and get a teacher and not get into a fight.

"So he should of let the kid continue to get beat up while he ran and got a teacher?'

"Yes"

Well...
miss assistant principal,
I think we are going to have Carson frame his referral.

We are proud that he tried to defend someone who was getting pummeled by two other kids.

AND it gets even better...
They even gave the poor kid that was getting beat up a referral.

Sometimes public school makes me a little crazy.

That is soooooo lame! It's like those security gaurds that watched a girl get beat up..."we just observe and report!" So messed up! Way to go Carson!

Crazy! It's so sad how things have changed in our public school systems since we were a kid. Not all the school rules are good ones. I guess this was a great learning experiance for Carson in a way. So sorry that happened. Give Carson a hug for me:}

I think you should pick him up everyday for recess time and take him out for ice cream to celebrate making the RIGHT decision!

Seriously? That 'system' is just teaching kids to sit by & do 'nothing' when they say run & get a teacher. I am so angry right now!!! I can't imagine how you feel. Carson did the right thing & should continue to do so if that should ever happen again. I'm glad you've taught your kids to stand up for whats right. xoxo

I have told my kids they will get in trouble if they DON'T help. Way to go Carson. That is why people sit back and don't help in society. The school system really infuriates me sometimes.

Way to go Carson, when something like this happens you know you have taught your child right! I've always told my kids they have the right to defend themselves and others, but they only get one punch so they better make it count!!!

My oldest son got suspended for getting into a fight with a kid at school, the kid was picking on another disabled kid and my son knew it was wrong. My normal response to being suspended is that you are going to work three times as hard at home as you would have at school during your entire suspension, complete with having to keep school hours, you work until school is out for the day. However in that case, I told my son I was proud of him for looking out for others and we had a fabulous few days together!
